Brooke's career began while she was a student at Amherst College in the early 1980s when she and fellow student Jennifer Kimball formed The Story. The Story released two albums, Grace in Gravity (1991) and The Angel in the House (1993). Both albums featured dissonant vocal harmonies to an extent not found in most albums in the genre. After The Story broke up in 1994, Brooke released her first solo album, Plumb (1995). This was followed by 10 Cent Wings (1997) and a harder-rocking album, Steady Pull, in 2001. Her most recent work is Back in the Circus, released in February of 2004. Reviews have been mixed. Bio: Singer/songwriter/guitarist Jonatha Brooke has been issuing albums that merge folk and pop since the early '90s, first as a member of a duo called the Story and then later as a solo artist.
Brooke formed the Story (originally called Jonatha & Jennifer for their first few years together) along with another vocalist, Jennifer Kimball, while the pair was both attending Boston's Amherst College in the early '80s.
In 2004, Brooke performed a set of ten shows at the Public Theater in New York, the highlights of which were collected for the 2006 release of Live in New York, complete with a DVD of the concert.
