The racial makeup of the city was 94.08% White, 0.50% African American, 0.60% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 3.10% from other races, and 1.54% from two or more races. Sex abuse scandal

Beginning in 1983, Jordan was swept up in an instance of what has been called satanic ritual abuse. According to Jordan native Tom Dubbe, the scandal began with the arrest of 26-year-old James Rud on sex abuse charges. Rud undoubtedly had a history of child molestation, but "once Rud was arrested he was given a difficult choice by Minnesota's first woman county attorney, Kathleen Morris. Morris suggested: Name names and we'll go easier on you."[2] Before long, many people were implicated in the scandal, and the case earned national press coverage.


Ultimately, the accused were exonerated of any wrongdoing after it was proved that many of the confessions were coerced. Nonetheless, many people in Jordan were profoundly affected, financially and emotionally, by the scandal.[3]


The incident is mentioned by Justice Antonin Scalia in his dissenting opinion in the case of Maryland v. Craig. Jordan, Minnesota, 2 years ago, there were 26 indictments handed down by a district attorney for this group of people, which is literally about a third of the adult population of this town, Jordan, Minnesota, who were involved in this elaborate kid fucking ring.
All the defendants in the Jordan, Minnesota trial were also acquitted but not before they had been financially ruined and everybody who believed them innocent (including the Deputy Sheriff and his wife) had been arrested so that a total of 24 people were eventually prosecuted.
According to one of the therapists treating a child in the Jordan, Minnesota case, an 8-year-old child alleged to have been sexually abused was kept in foster care for one year and told by a psychologist that he wouldn't be allowed to return home until his mother admitted that the sexual abuse had occurred.

Opposition developed through Roesch, the current teacher, but "in spite of all difficulties, Father braved the protests" and continued his efforts to obtain teaching sisters for the school.
According to some reports, the sisters lived in a new convent built in 1877, but another source says the three sisters lived on the first floor of the school across from the church.
The convent was closed in 1964 when the number of Sisters available for Jordan declined to only two.
