Canadian postal code - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (1937 words)
Postal zones were used in Canada as early as 1925, with the city of Toronto being the first city to receive such a system for sorting mail by destination.
Canada Post first implemented the new postal code system on a trial basis at the municipal level in Ottawa beginning on April 1, 1971, finally advancing to a provincial-level trial of the system in Manitoba, and then in turn, gradually rolling out the system to the rest of the country from 1972 to 1974.
Canada Post also uses a simpler optical mark recognition system for encoding postal codes, which is printed to the right of the destination address on an envelope.

For lists of individual countries' postal and ZIP Codes around the world, please refer to the lists of postal codes index.
Postal codes are also assigned to Senkaku Islands, though Japanese-governed, the Pratas Islands and the Spratly Islands.
In the Åland Islands, the postal code is prefixed with "AX", not "FIN".
