Places called "island" or "isle" which are not islands
Some places in the British Isles are called islands or isles, but are not. Some of these were formerly islands surrounded by marshland. Others are peninsulas or just coastal settlements. For those in England, see the list of islands of England. Others include:

They are administered by the Republic of Ireland, the UnitedKingdom (which is divided into England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), and the Isle of Man.
Although the Faroe Islands might appear to be part of the island group, they are seldom included and are administered by Denmark.
