The Most Serene Republic of Venice (Venetian: Serenìsima Repùblica Vèneta; Italian: Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia) was a Venetian city-state in Northeastern Italy, based around the city of Venice.
This move by the Venetians was as a response to the threatening expansion of Giangaleazzo Visconti, Duke of Milan.
By the eighteenth century, the Serene Republic was largely a shadow of its former glory, although it continued to rule over Venetia, the Adriatic littoral, and the Ionian Islands.
San Marino - LOCATION, SIZE, AND EXTENT, TOPOGRAPHY, CLIMATE, FLORA AND FAUNA (1095 words)
The town of San Marino is on the slopes and at the summit of Mt. Titano (755 m/2,477 ft), and much of the republic is coextensive with the mountain, which has three pinnacles.
