New York Hardcore (NYHC) refers to hardcore punk music created in New York City and to the subculture associated with that music. Though New York City played a central role in the development of early punk rock, the hardcore scene came to New York relatively late compared to other major cities, though an important scene finally did emerge in 1981.[1][2] The scene has been focused around venues such as CBGBs and ABC No Rio. The New York scene was home to most of the early influential Youth crew bands, such as Youth of Today, Sick of it All, Gorilla Biscuits, Bold, Side By Side, and later bands like WARZONE, MURPHYSLAW and Judge. In the 2000s, these areas outside the city have become an even bigger hotbed for punk rock, hardcore and their various subgenres than the city of New York. In the new millennium these areas outside the city have become an even bigger hotbed for punk, hardcore and its various subgenres than the city has.
A very strong scene that branched off of the New York City hardcore punk scene was the Long Island punk scene.

Hardcore gives energy and sincerity, a drive and conviction that reminds us why punk ever happened in the first place, a stunning and effective kick in the arse in the midst of all this futurism and white funk pose and an interesting and totally viable alternative to the 'threat' and media poisoning of Oi.
And the New York Hardcore scene stands to be the best of the lot; the bands are the most intelligent, least affected, the most varied and listenable, in short, the purest and most exciting.
Kids in New York have been listening, even if the older and more visible hipsters haven't been; a new generation is re-discovering the power and the glory of punk, and now New York's Hardcore scene is about to take off, right under everyone's noses, almost without warning.
