Paola Suárez (born June 23, 1976 in Munro, Argentina) is a top 10 tennis player, as of the early 2000s. She gained prominence in 2004 by reaching the finals of eight straight WTA double tournaments, and by reaching the semi-finals of the French Open tournament, held in Paris.
Suárez began playing professional tennis at the age of fifteen, in 1991. Her specialty back then was doubles games. In 2002, she was ranked number one in the world in doubles.
In 1994, she joined the professional tour as a singles player. It wasn't until the 2000s, however, that she became an international figure in her sport, by reaching the semis of the aforementioned French Open, a prestigious grand slam tournament.
Suárez has earned $4,434,802 dollars in her career, and she has four career titles. She had hoped that 2004's French Open's title would become her first grand slam championship.
In 2004, she was ranked number nine in the world among women tennis players by the WTA, which has been her highest ranking as a singles player thus far.

Fourteenth seed PaolaSuarez struck another blow for Argentinian tennis when she swept aside the feeble challenge of Russian teenager Maria Sharapova 6-1, 6-3 to reach the semifinals of the French Open for the first time on Tuesday.
Suarez was helped, however, by 18th seed Sharapova's game completely falling apart as the teenager had her serve broken seven times in the 59 minute match, sending down a calamitous 40 unforced errors in the process compared to just 10 for her opponent.
Suarez's best previous performance at a Grand Slam had been quarterfinal spots here in 2002 and at the US Open a year later while Sharapova, just 17 and ten years her opponent's junior, was enjoying her best ever Grand Slam run having made the fourth round at Wimbledon last year.
