Note on Greek names: There is no firm convention for the rendering of Greek personal names into English. Traditionally, Greek names were Romanised in spelling (thus, Sophoklis became Sophocles and Aiskhylos became Aeschylus ), and also Anglicised in form (thus, Georgios became George and Alexandros became Alexander). English-speaking readers are more used to seeing (for example) Constantine Karamanlis than Konstantinos Karamanlis.
Andreas Papandreou , for example, is never called Andrew Papandreou, but George Papandreou is never called Giorgios Papandreou). Reflecting this inconsistency, this table uses Greek forms except for those Prime Ministers for whose names an Anglicised form is established.
