Standards Of Learning SOL stands for The Standards Of Learning. This is a standardized test in for the Commonwealth of Virginia. "These standards represent a broad consensus of what parents, classroom teachers, school administrators, academics, and business and community leaders believe schools should teach and students should learn." Students are tested in the following subjects: English, mathematics, science, history, technology, fine arts, foreign languages, health and physical education, and driver education. However, the four core subjects, English, math, science, and history, are tested in more detail. If one were to fail this test, then it proves that they did not meet the requirement of the course. As a result, the student must either retake the SOL or must retake the subject.
