Stanley L. Miller (born 1930) is an American chemist famous for his role in the Miller-Urey experiment he performed in 1953, while a graduate student.

Born in Oakland, California, he received a B.S. from University of California, Berkeley, where he was a student of Harold Urey. Miller received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1954.

In 1953, Stanley Miller, a graduate of the University of Chicago, helped place this abiotic synthesis of organic compounds into the context of evolution. Miller used the laboratory simulation of chemical conditions on the primitive Earth to demonstrate that the spontaneous synthesis of organic compounds may have been an early stage of the origin of life.

Miller took a post at University of California, San Diego in 1958, and remained there for many years.
