Jefe convinced program director Cameron Grey to hire J-Dubs from Michigan, where he worked as a producer for Ron and Fez and Don and Mike. Jefe then convinced Cameron to let them do a Saturday night show on the station. The first episode of "El Jefe's Hideout" premiered Saturday, March 22nd, 2003 just two days after the Iraqi War began. The show continued, adding a third co-host, Spoon, to make the show seem more local. The show ran with inconsistent timeslots, until eventually settling in on a weekly timeslot. Some of their early bits included calling Jefe's mom to tell her he had smelled her marital aids and throwing rocks at each other. It was at this time that the Ron and Fez show held the "Saint Pat's Spat", a live appearance that included boxing matches between various station members, including Jefe and Dubs. It was decided that if Dubs won, the show would be renamed to "The Hideout". If Jefe won Dubs would have to get "El Jefe's Hideout" tattooed on his body.
