Valeris (played by Kim Cattrall), was a Vulcan navigation officer of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A in the fictional Star Trek universe. Valeris's uniform throughout the movie had many errors: she wore a red turtleneck normally worn by cadets, yet wore a jacket with grey wrist and shoulder straps worn by navigation and communications (neither of these colours are correct: as helmsman, both the straps and turtleneck should have been orange). Also, Valeris was referred throughout Star Trek VI by the rank of "Lieutenant" yet appeared to wear the insignia of a Lieutenant Commander. Post production releases indicated that Valeris's rank was a script error and that she was intended to be a Lieutenant Commander. Kim Cattrall was allowed to choose the name of her character in the film. She chose 'Valeris' which incorporated the name Eris - the Greek goddess of strife - hinting at Valeris' role in the events.
