In response to Farzeen:

On January 1, 1999, eleven of the countries in the European Economic and Monetary Union decided to replace their previous currency with the Euro. Ireland was one of these nations and as of February 9, 2002 the changeover was completed and the old Irish pound was no longer legal tender.
