I loved it especially the North Western parts of Pakistan are beautiful. I think non Muslim country wants to destroy Pakistan because of his atomic boom and what not. People are nice but the condition of the country has gone down since my last visit in 2001

  • The International Monetary Fund gave its nod to Pakistan´s economic reform program but issued a warning over mounting inflation in the country. The government of Pakistan was granted a $6.7 billion bailout package in 2013 by the IMF to help the country attain economic transformation particularly in the energy sector. Pakistan’s economy is number 25 in terms of GDP (purchasing power parity). It has the world’s sixth largest population at more than 183 million with more than 50 percent living below the poverty line.

National economy is dependent on foreign aid coming from the United States, United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia as well as other multilateral and bilateral assistance. It was reported by the IMF that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia extended $1.5 billion of financial aid this year to boost the domestic currency. The grant from IMF was intended to prop up Pakistan’s Central Bank which was left with only %5 billion in foreign currency reserves. The government has to cope with energy issues, high rate of unemployment and tax revenue deficits. Pakistan borrowed $12 billion from the World Bank and another $1 billion from ADB this year to cover government expenditures.

The country relies heavily on agriculture. The industry employs over 40 percent of the population. The principal crops include rice, cotton, wheat, sugarcane, fruits, vegetables, and tobacco. Farmers also raise cattle, sheep, and poultry. The country is now self-sufficient in food, as vast irrigation schemes have extended farming into arid areas, and fertilizers and new varieties of crops have increased yields. Tourism is growing. In fact, Pakistan has been visited by 75 million tourists during the past decade although terrorism has affected the industry. Pakistan manufactures textile which is the biggest earner of foreign exchange. It is also engaged in the production of processed foods, pharmaceuticals, construction materials, paper products, and fertilizers. The yearly cost of Pakistan's imports usually surpasses its revenues from exports.
