According to offical polish police statistics there were
1269 murders in 2000
and 980 murders in 2004

http://www.policja.pl/statys/raport00.htm
http://www.policja.pl/statys/raport2004.htm

this page says it was 2170 in 2000, which is over twice as much ! why ? And rate of murders with firearms is pretty low because in practice no civilian is allowed to own a gun and that's only good :)
