France is by far the leftist european country, it is not surprising in a country where government takes the half of your income.

The political systems in western nations are categorised along a left-right spectrum.
Characteristics of left wing politics include:

  • Interventionalist / Socialist economy
  • Equality has a higher value than liberty.
  • Social liberty is a priority.
  • Government intervention in moral issues should be minimal.
  • Emphasis on fair outcomes
  • Government responsibility for individual needs such as health and retirement

This statistic from the World Values Survey states the percentage of people who described themselves as far-left. Self placement would be influenced by the meaning of the terms political left and right within the context of each country surveyed.
