If you are bitten or struck by an animal, let’s hope it isn’t a mammal other than a rat or a dog, because they are apparently the most likely to kill you. The so-called 'other mammals' killed 427 people in 48 countries, more than rats (5 deaths), reptiles (101 deaths), crocodiles and alligators (7 deaths), dogs (115 deaths), and non-venomous insects and arthropods (51 deaths) combined. If you’re American, you’d really better watch it. The United States was first or tied for first in deaths caused by animal bites or strikes for each type of animal except crocodiles and alligators. Of the 706 people killed by animal bites and strikes, close to 19 percent (132 people) of the victims were American. |
