A heat wave in the eastern Indian state of Orissa, with temperatures rising as high as 46 degrees Celsius, has killed 10 people. The heat wave has affected much of India, and the situation has in Orissa has been exacerbated by power cuts across the state. Measures are being taken to prevent further deaths in Orissa, such as setting up roadside trauma centers, water booths and launching awareness campaigns. No deaths have been reported in other regions of India, but there have been unconfirmed television reports of over 100 people dying in Orissa, where the blazing temperatures have particularly affected the western portion of the state.
