Background:

As a strongly Islamic nation, Saudi Arabia exercises very strict laws, a fact that is reflected in its high number of executions annually. In 2007, they were had the 3rd highest in the world, with 143, though that was some way behind Iran (317) and China (470). Nevertheless, they still have a prisoner population of more than 28,600, but over half of these are foreign prisoners.
