Greetings. 'Lamaistic' is an archaic and discredited title for the Buddhism found in Bhutan and across the Himalayas and Tibet. 'Lama' means spiritual teacher (guru) in Tibetan, so 'Lamaistic Buddhist' has no meaning. The useage seems to have been born with missionaries who had contact with Buddhists in Tibet during the 19th Century. A more correct title would be 'Vajrayana Buddhist/Buddhism or because Vajrayana is merely a branch of 'Mahayana Buddhism', the title 'Mahayana Buddhist' would also be acceptable and correct. Hope this info is of some use.
