Facts and figures

Background:

Named after Captain COOK, who sighted them in 1770, the islands became a British protectorate in 1888. By 1900, administrative control was transferred to New Zealand; in 1965, residents chose self-government in free association with New Zealand. The emigration of skilled workers to New Zealand and government deficits are continuing problems.

Nothing that Nationmaster says about the Cook Islands is factual, honest or reliable. E.g. it says the main economy is based on export of copra and citrus and processed fruit - not one ounce of any of those has been exported for decades. The whole report on the Cook islands is equally spurious so I assume Nationamaster as a whole is a fraud - just a jumble of long outdated bits and pieces picked up from one list that picked it up from someone else's earlier list that picked it up from someone else's earlier list..... Nationamaster should be ashamed to be presenting such grossly erroneous data.
