I notice that people keep asking why China isn't on the list. China actual has a very low murder rate. Gun ownership is very low. civilian handgun ownership is 100% illegal, and since there is almost no hunting for sport rifle and shotgun ownership is very low, too. Knife carrying is also very low. This means that if a Chinese person gets into a fight or robs somebody, there is little chance of somebody actually being killed. This is why China is so low down the list. Victims of crime and violence usually survive with just a few cuts and bruises. |

I was looking at the murders with firearms numbers and El Salvador is listed in the total numbers but not in the per capita. El Salvador is one of the most dangerous countries in the world. It can't be left out of the list. What about Brazil, China, North Korea, Iran, etc? |

There seems to be a serious error in the German figure: German crime statistics counts Attempted Murder as Murder. Die actual number of people murdered in Germany last year was 370. |

India is having second largest population in the world is ranked top in the murders list cos, this country, where a intentional homicide is committed the accussed is fined with death penality, that is why it is ranking so high, in addition to this, China is Country which is having largest population in the world, is not at all mentioned here, if it is given it will be very beneficial to all. Russia is second in the list cos, in this country military offences are dealt very severly and even result with death penality. And one more country is missing that is BRAZIL, where the rate of offence is pity high compared to the top two countries. |

Six of the top ten countries for recorded intentional homicides have the death penalty. They are India, Indonesia, the United States, Thailand, Mexico and Russia. Mexico retains the death penalty only for exceptional crimes such as military crimes. Russia is considered abolitionist in practice. (http://web.amnesty.org/pages/deathpenalty-countries-eng) Ukraine and South Africa are the most recent countries in the top ten to abolish the death penalty. South Africa abolished the death penalty for all crimes in 1997, and Ukraine in 1999. Only two of the bottom 10 countries on this list – Dominica and Qatar – have the death penalty. In the year 2000, Dominica had two murders and Qatar had one. In the world, there are 78 countries that practice the death penalty, 83 that do not have the death penalty for any crime, 13 that have abolished the death penalty for ordinary crimes, and 22 that have the death penalty but have not executed anybody for at least 10 years. |
