The US’s reputation as a bastion of democracy is supported by the fact that it has the largest number of registered voters in the world, with more than 156 million voters entitled to express their preference in the Presidential Elections. However, voter turnout remains low, with 67.4% of voters actually voting in the 2001 elections - placing it 55th in global voter turnout statistics - though a world leading 105 million votes were cast. |
