An abandoned uranium mine reportedly exists in northwest Turkmenistan, near Kizil-Kaya. Turkmenistan's military doctrine includes pledges not to possess, produce, or proliferate nuclear arms. Turkmenistan is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). Ashkhabad signed an Additional Protocol with the International Atomic Energy Agency in May 2005.

WMD > Overview
Turkmenistan has one of the least developed export control systems in the former Soviet Union. Due to its shared borders with Afghanistan and Iran, the country could potentially become a transit point for illegal exports. Turkmenistan does not produce or possess nuclear, chemical, or biological weapons.
