This info is may be too old. On this list there is only 500 Chinese in Libya, but i read in the news now (Mar 2011) 35,000 Chinese left that country due to the civil war.

I find this accumulation of stats worrying. Are non chinese countries preparing a "final solution"? There are no such stats for the black population, Jewish population etc. for these countries...

@ Jeff from the UK

For the top 10 countries with the largest Chinese population, especially the Southeast Asian countries in that top 10, it's not the immigrant Chinese population but ethnic Chinese population who have been there for generations (i.e. people of Chinese descent). As for the other countries, it's more likely to be Chinese immigrants from China.. I know that for fact as I am from the Philippines and I AM of ethnic Chinese descent as well and in those Southeast Asian countries, there has always been a large traditional Chinese component that have been there for generations.

@ Jeffrey from Singapore

The largest Chinese 'dialect' group outside of China and Taiwan are the Cantonese. It has been the Cantonese that have immigrated in huge numbers to other countries. IN general, it has been the Southern Chinese ethnic groups that have gone all over the world in contrast to the comparatively static Mandarin-speaking Northern Chinese. That's why Chinese culture overseas as pictured by the West is (often unnoticeably) Cantonese.
