DEFINITION: Average liters of pure alcohol consumed annually in the form of “recorded alcohol” by the population above 14 years of age. The consumption of tourists is excluded for countries with more tourists per year than resident population. “Recorded alcohol” is taxed and within governmental control. It excludes alcohol that is homemade (legally or illegally), smuggled or obtained through cross-border shopping.
