The Kingdom of Belgium is a highly developed country in Europe. It is a relatively small country with a very rich history. Belgium is commonly identified as the Battlefield of Europe for several historically accurate reasons: first, it is situated at the center of four giant and warring countries – France, Germany, and the Netherlands; thus, during the two world wars, many of the conflicts took place within the Belgian territory. It was originally a part of the Netherlands, but it later seceded and formed its own state.

Belgium is a federal monarchy. King Philippe, the current king and head of the Belgian state, has the sole power of selecting the Prime minister and several other ministers. However, his selection is limited to persons approved by the parliament. Essentially, the role of the King and other members of the monarchy are more ceremonial than it is political.

Belgium has a very advanced economy, and it is one of the top trading nations as of 2007.
