Japan's population has long been amongst the oldest living in the world, with more than 15.8 million women above the age of 65 and 11.6 million men above 65, in 2008. However, 2003 population projections have indicated that even the 80 years and older age group is set to increase from 7.5 million (male and female) in 2010 to over 10 million in 2020 and to around 13 million in 2050. However, the infant population (0-4 years) is expected to fall dramatically, from just under 6 million in 2010, to under 5 million in 2020 to just 4 million in 2050.Japan Population Pyramid for 1990
