FACTOID # 2: Norwegians drink 10.7 kilograms of coffee per person each year. They also lead the globe in anxiety disorders. Maybe it’s time to switch to herbal tea.

"Luxembourg sells the most alcohol in Europe per capita. However, the large proportion of alcohol purchase by customers from neighbouring countries contributes to the statistically high level of alcohol sales per capita; this level of alcohol sales is thus not representative of the actual alcohol consumption of the Luxembourg population."

In terms of problematic "binge" drinking, the following study puts Ireland on top with a third of its people binging, with Finland, Britain and Denmark also high (each are about 1/4 bingers). http://www.finfacts.com/irishfinancenews/article_10009454.shtml

@Wine Lover, at 14% alc/vol, a 750ml bottle of wine has 105ml of pure alcohol, bringing it to about 0.4 bottles of wine per day, which is a lot but not unrealistic.

Interesting that Russia and Australia are actually not that high despite their respective reputations

Unlike the Seattle comment, *this* is the only reasonable, adequate, and sensible way to analyse alcohol consumption.
Portuguese drink wine, but the % alcohol differs from the Italian ones.
Czechs drink beer, but the % alcohol differs from the Belgian ones.
Even with vodka, there are 38% and 80%! So shut up and quit the booze!
