The first thing that grabbed my eye, were the position of the US and the number of Countries in the sample. Prime example is "Murder by firearm." it has the US ranked #1, but with only 36 countries looked at, while other categories have 46 or up to 100+ Countries compared against. Even their own link to that category has the US as 4th highest and WAY below the rate of #1 and #2. Very skewed "report" and not one I would take as having any real meaning at all, except to promote the views of the writers and NOT as fact. |

To that colombia is great dude, they were just telling some truthful facts about it. They by no means stated that colombia is a bad place to live, or visit. As for that executions, eye for an eye can make the whole world blind, or as the saying goes. Don't take offense at just a blind statement of information. Go out and try to make the world better. |

Most of the above commentators should take a look at South Africa's statistics and consider the ratio between the stats and the population. If you ever want to see a war zone, where you, your wife and children and family/friends are not safe, then come on over. I wish they would update these records to today's stats or the last year or two as well. |

The U.S should be the most violent country, you have people from all of those other countries living here. This country is made up of people from all over the world! The one thing you can bank on in the U.S is that if you call 911 help will arrive, in other countries the cops will come but they will probably be on the payroll of the person trying to rob/kill you or the perp will have the means to out gun the cops! |

Hi, I am Colombian and I find it very offending that you KATHY AND NATE jump to conclusions about Colombia without knowing the facts! Have you ever even been to Colombia? It's a beautiful country with a lot of culture to offer but all you think about it is that its "the most dangerous". Please! Before you believe everything you see on TV and start offending people, THINK before you write something like that. Do you realize, KATHY AND NATE, how many countries there are in this world? And do you honestly believe that out all of those countries Colombia is the most dangerous? That's funny because if it was the most dangerous then how come my whole entire family and everyone I know has lived there their whole lives without crime? These crime rates are very outdated (1999?). The latest figures are here: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/glance/cv2.htm Look stuff up before you comment. US violent crime has been declining rapidly since 1993. Our homicide rates (if you separate them out from other violent crimes like rape and armed robbery) are still high compared to most of the rest of the developed world, but they too are declining rapidly. In 2004, NY City registered the lowest murder rate since 1962, despite an increase in population since then. |

I wish this site would actually educate people on how to read these statistics or, from the start, show accurate percentages. The United States, as a whole, is one of the safest nations in the world, with one of the better legal systems that exists. What matters most is the city. You have to click the little "per capita" link to actually see the true listings. The way this site shows "rankings" next to countries is downright misleading and dangerous in and of itself. |

The Right to Bear Arms has existed since BEFORE crime statistics, Gated Communities etc...Were it not for Arms, We'd still be Subjects of the Queen. I'll take dangerous self-determination over servitude to inbred Monarchs any day. I AM a Soveriegn of ONE. |
