In response to Michelle:

According to the Sri Lanka Census of Population and Housing, which was conducted on the 17th July 2001, Residential Statistics were as follows:

Total residential dwellings: 5,380,703
Total population: 18,732,255

These statistics give an average of 3.4 people per household. As there is an average of 2.2 people per room, a significant proportion of households consist of only one room.
