Procreation is a word. It's not a political stance. Pro-life is a stance; procreation is not. If you're in favor of creating new life then I assume you would be pro-procreation.

Countries where divorces are easily granted tend to have higher rates of divorce. And divorces are most easily granted in heavily feminized countries. Therefore, it's safe to conclude that feminism is bad for marriage and families. Also, in heavily feminized countries, women are the ones who initiate most of the divorces, and women are the ones who walk away the big winners. Therefore, it's entirely rasonable to conclude that women in these countries will not marry for love. Rather, they will marry simply because the law allows them to take advantage of men.

What is sad is that there are so many people preaching about "don't get divorce," or reciting the Bible. If the relationship is physically, emotionally, or mentally abusive- get out. No one will help you but yourself. Some people cannot be "cured" with counseling or jail time. Divorce is the ONLY answer at times.

If we were not all so stupid, the answer is simple to end the divorce problem. Don't jump into a marriage if you do not know the person. You should date someone for at least a year before you decide to marry them. Call me old fashioned but it makes a lot of sense. It does NOT matter the circumstance you should not get married unless you really know the person. There you go, if people would just listen to the simple logic the divorce rate would decrease.

Nobody wants to get divorced! If one partner wants divorce becasue of any reason, another cannot resist it. It is just conditioning. Divorce is good for those who suffers from marriage, but bad for those who loves, for them time goes wrong. Just do not divorce for small matters, dialogues and positive attitude can reduce the rate of divorce. If one things that s/he will find out a perfect partner is mere self-delusion. So why not try to change ourselves or our partners if she's potentiality?

What really is destroying the sanctity of marriage these days? Well the answer is simple. It is everyone. 50% of all marriages in the United States will end in divorce. 41%-50% off all first marriages end in divorce, 60%-67% for second marriages, and 73%-74% of all third marriages. Divorce rates are increasing at an alarming rate and continue with the main reason being infidelity. In my personal opinion I believe that marriage has become a huge joke. It really has become a piece of paper that says when you cheat or if you piss me off I get to leave with half your stuff, if I depend on you for income you now have to support me until I die or remarry, and if there is children evolved you will pay for those as well. In my opinion there should be a ban on all marriage and only allow a civil union for the legal purpose of property. It is not for love these days, it is a business arrangement between two consenting adults.

STOP GETTING DIVORCES PEOPLE. We marry because we fell in love. You can get that back. We all see statistics rising in all areas of negativity in the world yet we all continue to contribute to them. Get our morrals back. Fight for family. Fight for peace. Togetherness not selfishness. Start loving, foregiving and doing what is right and not what we feel like doing. Lets make a change. We see the statistics on children in divorced homes. Dont we care about our own children? STOP GETTING DIVORCES. Go to marriatal councelling for life if you have to.

Should you ever return to read this, I would just like to know in what way(s) divorce is wrong. Please do not site ancient scriptures of any sort. If you are going to make a definative statement like that, please provide why you are so sure of yourself. Like everyone else, I am up to my ears in opinions. However, I do not spout these beliefs in others direction as though they are fact without providing some reasons as to why I believe what I believe. Thanks.

What these highly conservative men do not understand is that it is not feminism that has caused divorce, but unfaithful men and women who marrry in the heat of the moment and regret their decision shortly afterward. They believe that because they can do something, they should, without planning for the future. Many times there are so many differences of opinion that they find the person impossible to live with. Do not blame the for getting devorced, but for marrying. In most countries if a person marries the wrong person they are miserably stuck with them for life. At least in developed countries they have to OPTION to get out of an mentally or physically abusive relationship, a luxury many people do not have.

It is really gloomy picture of human society. More advance and more psychological stress. In the rich country, marry through love, in the traditional societies people marry then love. Since, none is perfect so no love is perfect, but what is important is to change our mentality towards life and humanity.

Why in the West, children are abused with rate? Because of the problems of the parents. Western societies must think about the joint family where children could live and grow safely. Many teens in the west, sale themselves for survival, and education. It is because in the West they have culture to separate from parents after graduation or before. In the case of not having proper source income, they are compelled to sell themselves.

We must protect our children! We have to start to change from ourselves, then society and state. Structural change should be long term strategy and self-change should be immediate. Thanks!

I agree the women in the USA are the ones always asking for the divorce but what most people don't know is how hugely different the divorce rate is for women with college degree vs no college. More than twice for a girl without a degree. Marriages lasting less then ten years you can double that rate again. Yes nearly 4 times, Now just why?

Idont agree with their source of information. India should be on 2nd place. India currently have highest divorce rate may be less then US but it is very high. Every 10th hours in row has divorce member in india accordig to Chandigarh Tribune. Mainly because of indian girls parents selling their daughters in name of NRI marriages. They want easy green card and citizenship so they are looking for NRIs to spoil their daughter and other persons life. Once goal achived then divorce if filed by girl by force.

Statistics or not, everyone realizes that when women went on the rampage and took their clothes off in the developed world, the family foundations cracked, extending all the way to the government. A country's moral foundation is the basis of family life, which is in turn the pillar of society. Once that's busted, the government and institutions are affected. The whole society is now a bunch of illegitimates, drug addicts, felons, wacky psychos on medications, perverts. And their children will be worse.

There is your civilization.

According to divorce statistics , one out of five marriages lasts for 50 years and 50% of marriage ends in divorce. Obviously, US got the highest divorce rate. With the rampant divorce trend, it’s quite rare to find couples who’ve reached the maturity of their marriages. Today, divorce is granted for about 60 days, and spouses can claim for mind-boggling spousal and child support.

It all really depends on how much modern feminism has infected the country. Its absolutely laden in the US and parts of northern Europe, which explains the high divorce rates.

These statistics are utter nonsense. I need to know how many marriages end in divorce by country worldwide. The stats listed on this page do not say whether this is a yearly measure or lifetime measure. In other words does the US's 4.95 per 1000 people indicate this year of 2009? Does it mean that of 1000 people who got married or per 1000 people of population (which makes the statistic almost meaningless)? Please do a better job of marking these currently useless statistics.

Thanks.

In response to Missys:
The divorce rate in Spain is 0.6 for every 1,000 people which amounts to 10.9% of all marriages ending in divorce. This rate is significantly lower than that of most other Western European countries.
Factors which influence the divorce rate in Spain include:
  • The legal process required in order to obtain a divorce. In Spain this process involves legal separation during which the case for separation must be presented before a judge, a waiting period of at least one year after legal separation has been granted, reconcilliation attempts must be made and grounds for divorce must also be established. These legal processes are currently under review.
  • The Catholic Church. 94% of Spainiards are members of the Catholic church which opposes divorce.
  • Social Attitudes. Since divorce in Spain was legalised in 1981 the divorce rate has increased, however the social stigma of divorce still affects many people.
  • Marriage rate - The marriage rate in Spain has declined from seven marriages per 1000 population in 1981 to 4.9 per 1000 today. This rate is lower than most European countries. As fewer people are getting married (Many are opting for a single life or common-law marriage) fewer divorces will result.

In response to Liseanaga:

Divorce affects families and society in a number of ways. Every family and every divorce is different. The effects of divorce on children can range from mild to severe and from short-term to long-term.

Effects of divorce on children and the family concerned include:

  • Health, behavioral, learning and emotional problems (either arising from the divorce or aggravated by it)

  • Financial problems (including child support payments which are not made and child support payments made to a previous partner)

  • Loss of family (including extended family)

  • New family members (step-parents, step-brothers and sisters)

  • Child abuse (this is more common in stepfamilies

  • Crime, drug abuse, teen pregnancy and suicide (all are more common among children of divorced parents.

  • Higher school drop-out rates.

  • Religious worship often decreases or stops after the parents divorce.

As families are part of society, anything which affects a significant proportion of families will also affect society as a whole. In addition to this, costs associated with the effects of divorce such as social security, legal assistance (for custody, property and child support issues) and additional childcare are subsidised by the tax-payers in most developed nations.

The divorce rate per 1000 people doesn’t tell the whole story about the prevalence of divorce in a country. Countries with more marriages will usually also have higher numbers of divorced people.

To get an idea of how many marriages end in divorce, take a look at the number of divorces per 100 marriages, where Belgium tops the list at 59.8 divorces for every 100 marriages.

Only six countries are in the top 20 of both divorces per 1000 people and divorces per 100 marriages.

The United States and Russia are first and third, respectively, for divorce rates per 1000 people. But they are first and second in the number or marriages per 1000 people per year, and don’t appear in the top 20 of divorces per 1000 marriages.
