Age distribution has changed quite dramatically in the US over the past 60 years. Females over the age of 65 out-numbered males by a slight majority in 1950, but by 1990 ratio was almost 2:1 - though US military activity WWII to Vietnam may be responsible. The trend is expected to change with almost 6 million more women 65 and older to men 65 and older in 2008, but just 300,000 more women aged 15-64 to men aged 15-64.United States Population Pyramid for 1950
