CO2 emissions is bad, very bad, we need more greener energy!! This winter in Easter Europe has been very warm, which does not have to be like this!! |
Ken Moore 2nd July 2011 |
the CO2 production of the top 20 countries is on an incredible upward spiral. But what do they really show? Can someone point me to a graph that includes. CO2 output from an explosion such as Mount Pinatubo in Indonesia, or Iceland's Grimsvotn and Eyjafjallajokull volcanos or from the current Chilean volcano Puyehue-Cordón Caulle that has stopped air travel in Australia and New Zealand for days in June.
Natural output of CO2 far exceeds anything that is man made. The real damage was and is cutting down all the trees in every country in the world. |

Data needs to be updated.
China surpassed the USA in 2007. In 2007 China consumed 6.5 billion tons of CO2 while America's declined to 5.8 billion tons. |
Denise 28th February 2011 |
Need to update. Even the 2007 figures show that China almost doubled their emissions whilst the US barely increased at all. I live in Australia and we dropped from 14th to 16th |
SZL197 29th December 2010 |
It is absolutely misleading to publish such wrong data.
They are about 6 years old. This year's emission is much over 30 billion tons.
Anyway, it does not matter! Co2 is not a pollutant! |
ABHISHEK.P.AJAY 9th December 2010 |
This statistics are not most recent. Now China is on the first place before USA and Russia. |

In now a days we depend for technology, but in order technology works it's needs electricity. So we burn more fossil fuel and produces tons and tons of CO2. We must find for more renewable source of electricity in order to protect Mother Earth, because we are the one who will be affected by the global warming. |

Apparently these statistics are dated 2004 according to the oldest comment |
Environment Lover 26th November 2010 |
It surprises me that so many people wrote comments saying that this ranking of countries needs evidence of such claims, most likely because the US is ahead of China. They should not be in denial as the US, as everyone knows wants to be first in every competition whether good or bad. Didn't they called the meeting for the Kyoto protocol? Then why can't they practice what they preach and abide by the laws they helped created? |

HUMANS can DO NOTHING about these events & they produce more pollution than the human race could ever do! LOOK THESE THINGS UP YOURSELF!
Comparison of CO2 emissions from volcanoes vs. human activities.
Scientists have calculated that volcanoes emit between about 130-230 million tonnes (145-255 million tons) of CO2 into the atmosphere every year (Gerlach, 1991). This estimate includes both sub-aerial and submarine volcanoes, about in equal amounts.
------------------------
TOXIC GAS concentration from VOLCANOES is FAR MORE DEADLY & Life threatening than what humans can do. (JUST VOLCANOES ALONE STATS).
-----------------------
There are also stats on tundras that produce more pollution than the human race could ever do.
-----------------------
Across the globe, thousands of coal fires are burning. Nearly impossible to reach and extinguish once they get started, the underground blazes threaten towns and roads, poison the air and soil.
Some of the underground fires are natural occurrences. When coal, exposed at or near the surface by erosion, combines with oxygen, a chemical reaction produces heat.
Much of the landscape of the American West— its mesas and escarpments—is the result of vast, ancient coal fires.
Many ancient fires like those still burn, from the Canadian Arctic to southeast Australia. Scientists estimate that Australia’s BurningMountain, the oldest known coal fire, has burned for 6,000 years. In the 19th century, explorers mistook the smoking summit for a volcano. |

The US should stop providing agriculture and other goods to the rest of the world as well as importing goods from the rest of the world.
This would lower the need for not only fuel for transportation but create more jobs in the US and lower the need for other nations to provide transportation to the US.
The US should also stop immigration to the US except in very limited circumstances, again as the population of the US goes up the new immigrants increase their use of CO2 emitting products. The US has had a stable population for sometime except for immigration.
Governments and international agencies, non-profits should also explore other ways besides travel to foreign nation to communicate, such as modern technology advances of video, secure phones, etc.

In response to Ganesh .R:
At first glance, the carbon dioxide emission rates for India appear high compared to more industrialised countries such as Germany and the United Kingdom. This is misleading as India's population is significantly higher than those countries. If this statistic is viewed per capita, India's ranking falls to 115th, signficantly lower than Germany (22nd) and the United Kingdom (25th).
Carbon dioxide enters the atmosphere when wood or fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas are burned. The largest contribution to carbon dioxide emissions are fossil fuel powered electricity generation, some industrial processes (such as metal refining) and motor vehicle exhaust.
India has only 12 motor vehicles per 1000 people, however 81% of its electicity is generated from fossil fuels. |

Greenhouse gas emissions in the United Kingdom rose 1.5 percent from the previous year’s level in 2004 and are now higher than they have been since Tony Blair’s Labour government came to power in 1997. The data suggest U.K. may miss its emission target as set by the Kyoto Protocol. Under the terms of the Kyoto Protocol, the U.K. must limit annual greenhouse gas emissions to 12.5 percent below 1990 levels for the 2008-2012 period. Emissions were 14.4 percent below in 2002, and 13.4 percent below in 2003, but just 12.6 percent below in 2004. The government has previously admitted that the U.K. will not meet the target in the Labour party’s 1997 election platform of reducing CO2 emissions 20% from 1990 levels by 2010. The latest figures show the U.K.’s CO2 emissions in 2004 were just 4.2% below 1990 levels. |

Carbon dioxide is vital nutrient for plants. According to GreenHouse Gas Online, an estimated 115 billion tons of carbon dioxide is emitted into the atmosphere every year by land-based organisms. The surface waters of the ocean emit an estimated 88 billion tons of carbon dioxide annually, but oceans also absorb 90 billion tons of carbon dioxide, so they actually reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Emissions from the breathing of the 6 billion people who inhabit earth are relatively insignificant. However, the combustion of fossil fuels by humans generates considerable amounts of carbon dioxide. Emissions of carbon dioxide as a result of human activities tend to rise and fall in correlation with Gross Domestic Product. Many scientists believe that carbon dioxide emissions from human activities contribute to global warming. |
teddy 3rd December 2004 |
i understand that CO2 emission can increase with population.. industries then add to it. |
