National identity card First issued at school age, the Resident Identity Card ( Chinese : \u5c45\u6c11\u8eab\u4efd\u8bc1, Pinyin : J\u016bm\u00edn Sh\u0113nf\u00e8nzh\u00e8ng) becomes compulsory at 16. It is compulsory for all citizens and permanent residents to apply for the NRIC from age 15 onwards, and to re-register their cards for a replacement at age 30.
