National identity card The Belarusian passport is compulsory at 16. Reissued at 25, 45 and 100. It is international, not an internal passport , and can be used to travel to other countries. Could be issued before 16 for travelling purposes. Compulsory by law, but there is no penalty for not having one. Overview <p>The present borders of Belarus were established during the turmoil of World War II.</p> <p>The former Soviet republic was occupied by the Nazis between 1941 and 1944, when it lost 2.2 million people, including almost all of its large Jewish population.</p> <p>The largest remaining minority is a Polish population of about 400,000 in the west, which is also the stronghold of the beleagured Belarussian language.</p><br> <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-17941131">Full Article</a> <p>A small and heavily forested country, Estonia is the most northerly of the three former Soviet Baltic republics.</p> <p>Not much more than a decade after it regained its independence following the collapse of the USSR, the republic was welcomed as an EU member in May 2004.
