Bird Flu > H5N1 > Recent animal cases About 15 swans arrived at Plivsko lake around 11 February 2006. On 16 February, two swans showed signs of disease, and were killed and sent to the laboratory for further examination. Pathological findings and a rapid test immediately raised strong suspicions of avian influenza and further tests after egg inoculation showed H5 strain. A start of an outbreak occured on 27 January of H5N1 in the state of Maharashtra and district of Nandurbar. Newcastle disease has also been reported from the area. No human cases have been detected.
