Bird Flu > H5N1 > Recent animal cases A start of an outbreak occured on 27 January of H5N1 in the state of Maharashtra and district of Nandurbar. Newcastle disease has also been reported from the area. No human cases have been detected. Farm personnel as well as backyard farm owners and their families are being closely monitored. The team of cullers and vaccinators are under chemo-prophylactic cover. No further information has been given and no final report yet released. Six outbreaks have been confirmed between 19 Jan. and 2 Feb. 2006 in the states of Kano and Plateau. Positive tests for the H5N1 virus on some 36,500 poultry.
